Objectives
  • - promote scientific exchange and co-operation between participating research groups
  • - promote sharing of research infrastructure (e.g. greenhouses, growth rooms and research equipment)
  • - maintain a vibrant seminar speaker programme
  • - organise and host national and international conferences relating to plant research
  • - plan and carry out innovative & interdisciplinary projects at a high scientific level
  • - increase our knowledge about plants and the organisms with which they interact, from molecular to ecosystem levels
  • - apply the findings of basic research and contribute to sustained development in Ireland, EU & internationally
  • - guarantee future competence in the field of plant science research by means of shared teaching & training of graduate research programs
  • - intensify co-operation & visibility of plant research community with business, politics, and government and other stakeholder groups in society
  • - encourage dialogue with the public by contributing a scientific point of view to social, economic, and political topics relating to plants
  • - promote the physical clustering of research groups working with plants within UCC
  • - attract new plant research groups to UCC that are internationally competitive
  • - establish a Centre for Plant Molecular Biosciences & Biotechnology at UCC
