INPUTS lead to ACTIVITIES lead to OUTPUTS lead to IMPACTS.

The "logic model" asks us to be clear about these relationships as we plan our evaluation. What inputs in our PIT programme have led to what activities? What activities have led to what outputs? What outputs have led to what impacts?

And then the "logic model" asks us four questions.

  • Do we want to measure our inputs (for example, money spent)?
  • Or do we want to measure our activities (for example, number of farmer field days)?
  • Or do we want to measure our outputs (for example, number of publications)?
  • Or do we want to measure our impacts (for example, whether or not farmers have really changed their cultural practices)?
